Other Info

Revenue Canada recognizes Social Work as a health profession and exempts Registered Social Workers from charging GST for their clinical counselling services. Registered Social Workers, along with psychologists and psychiatrists,are the only clinical counselling groups exempted from charging GST.

Registered social workers (RSW) are now recognized as medical practitioners under the Income Tax Act. This means that clinical services provided by RSWs can be claimed on clients income tax returns. In accordance with the Medical Expense Tax Credit (METC), the Government of Canada will reimburse recipients of clinical services that have expenses greater than $2,109 in 2012 or 3 percent of the taxpayers net income.

A Note About Online Counselling

On-line counselling has limitations, compared to face-to-face counselling, and is not meant to manage or intervene in crisis situations.

Before contracting to do on-line counselling, you should consider the following:
- Whether on-line counselling is the best option for your needs;
- Whether you have the necessary computer literacy and access to a computer with high-speed internet to accommodate on-line counselling.

I use Zoom for online counselling sessions. Please see consent form for electronic communication on my Schedule & Fees page.

I would like to acknowledge that we are gathered on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples–Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations.
