Registered social workers (RSW) are now recognized as medical practitioners under the Income Tax Act. This means that clinical services provided by RSWs can be claimed on clients income tax returns. In accordance with the Medical Expense Tax Credit (METC), the Government of Canada will reimburse recipients of clinical services that have expenses greater than $2,109 in 2012 or 3 percent of the taxpayers net income.
Due to COVID, most of my counselling has moved online.
I may offer on-line counselling if it is deemed appropriate and fitting for your situation. On-line counselling has limitations, compared to face-to-face counselling, and is not meant to manage or intervene in crisis situations.
Before contracting to do on-line counselling, you should consider the following:
- Whether on-line counselling is the best option for your needs;
- Whether you have the necessary computer literacy and access to a computer with high-speed internet to accommodate on-line counselling.
I use Zoom mostly for online counselling sessions. Other on-line options include Skype, FaceTime, or Doxy.me which provides telemedicine access between patients and providers. Please see consent form for electronic communication on my Schedule & Fees page.
